Dr. Daniel W. Cowans Sr.
Dr. Daniel W. Cowans, Sr. is a born again Christian who committed his life to the Lord when he was only thirteen years old, back in his native land of Jamaica in the West Indies. There he served in various capacities throughout the churches on the island.
After obtaining his elementary education, he worked in several fields of untrained labour while he continued to upgrade his education. After being qualified, he then entered Nursing College where he completed his training of three years: graduating as a Registered Nurse (R.N.), and a member of the Nursing Association of Jamaica (N.A.J.). After working as a nurse at one of the island’s hospitals for some years, he decided to migrate to Canada.
After arriving in Canada in May 1982, Dr. Cowans continued working in his profession. After six months, he was again successful in writing the Ontario Nurses Association Examination qualifying himself as: a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in Ontario, and a member of the Ontario Nurses Association (O.N.A).
After working in the Ontario hospital system, as well as private care nursing for several years, Dr. Cowans decided to change his professional field - he started going back to school in pursuit of a counselling career.
Dr. Cowans graduated with his Bachelor degree in Christian Counselling (B.C.C.). Without hesitation, he moved on to complete his Masters degree in Christian Counselling (M.C.C.). He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Christian Counselling (D.C.C.).
Dr. Cowans has been commissioned as a Diplomate, Certified Psychotherapist Counsellor (D-C.P.C.) by the Evangelical Order of Pastoral Counsellors. He also received his General Practice Psychotherapist (G.P.P.) certification from the Canadian Christian Clinical Counsellors Association (C.C.C.C.A.). The most recent addition to Dr. Cowans’ academic achievements is his Doctor of Philosophy degree in International Mission/Counselling (Ph.D.).
Dr. Cowans is the pastor of the Bibleway Church of God in Christ. He is also the President and founder of the Bibleway Institute of Christian Counselling and Theological Studies. Furthermore, he is serving as one of the Administrative Assistants to the Presiding Bishop of the Canadian/Michigan Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ Organization. Dr. Cowans is head of the Department of Counselling at Resq Youth International (a charitable organization serving young people and families in the Peel Region who are having problems in the school system and with the law).
Other affiliations: Dr. Cowans holds membership with the E.O.C.P.C., and the C.C.C.C.A. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Faith Ministerial Fellowship of Ontario (F.M.F.O.). He is recognized as an Honoured Professional in the Who’s Who Executives and Businesses general registry. In conjunction with these, Dr. Cowans holds many other diplomas, certificates, and affiliations. To God alone be the glory and the praise.
Dr. Cowans is married to his wife Pauline; they have four children: Daniel Jr., Ivorlene, David, and Andrew.
